From here to there...
Jim Rivers is an Oregon based contemporary singer/songwriter
producing graphic arts, songs, stories and anything else the muse commands. The Rivers
logo represents his home town of Portland, Oregon where the Willamette and the mighty
Columbia rivers meet to form the heart of a city.
at the mercy of the muse...
"I was about eight when I started writing," Jim says, "I
work when the muse moves me and try to edit through that chaos. I don't always know what
the source is but I know it's my job to make sense of the story and give it
atmosphere." It's been like that every since for Jim, two lives in one
head. "Yes, it gets kind'a' crowded in here."
in a worn out hat...
This isn't Jim's first time around the musicians block. Writing and
guitars where there from an early age but percussion was his first performing love.
From his early days with members of the PSU Stage Band, studio musicians in San Francisco,
members of the Geoffrey Ballet and numerous club bands his devotion to the muse has been
constant.
and a new pair of shoes...
Jim is currently performing on his custom acoustic/electric guitar
"MissFit" and on his Taylor cedar top, "Peaches and cream all the way"
he says. And his trusty "tough as a farm truck" Ovation is all but attached to
his arm.
Jim's performances are meant to be engaging without being cerebral,
inviting without being demanding and easy going though not laid back. "It's in the
storyteller tradition I guess, a bit of this and that, seasoned to the moment. I have a
lot of songs so I can try to match the changing moods of the evening." |
