Your love is a mystery
My life is such a mess
Wonder what you see in me
You're not like all the rest
Baby you saved me
When I was such a wreck
You may be just too much for me
You put me to the test
Long may you serve me
Long may you be free
Long live the mystery
Your love is a mystery
A key to a treasure chest
So long my ship at sea
Can finally come to rest
Baby you saved me
The storms were chasing me
Your love, your love
Your fire is all I need
Long may you serve me
Long may you be free
Long live the mystery

Sacrifice, forgiveness, fairness, discovery. Few things embody the highest
aspirations of life. Love does. You don't need eyes to see it. You don't need words to say
it. It sometimes expresses itself in what is not conveyed. It is often overlooked and
underpaid and usually under-appreciated. All it asks is acknowledgement. Sometimes,
hopefully, a simple thank you builds a bridge. Indestructible because it is not tangible.
Savored because it is not consumable. And shared if only in thought because it is
inescapable.
Like the waters of life, it nurtures, conforms to any shape, finds it's
own level and changes with the tide. It deserves its place as a central theme. It deserves
every poem, gift and compromise. Both in the grand scheme of things and in the essential
daily mechanics of living. Without love we would be slaves to some cold universal laws,
ants building ant hills. But the lion loves the cub or the cub would not survive. More
than a natural requirement, it is a grace, a mystery of God like proportion and I for one
try to be grateful for every small miracle. |
