A step too far will cross the line
Chasing shadows in the mind
It's a long way to go and rare peace of mind
You and your demons, me and mine
Come back to the fold, you're out of control
What have you won and what was the toll
On your soul
Soldier of misfortune
Now you've been out there for too long
Reasons change the right and wrong
In the still of the night, crawling along
Do you know that life goes on
Come back to the fold, you're out of control
What have you won and what was the toll
On your soul
Soldier of misfortune
Do you know that life goes on
Soldier of misfortune

A rock song about holding on to what bothers us for so long that we begin to believe
that those feelings define us.
There was a man who was proud of his twisted feelings. He loved what he hated and hated
what he loved. How did this all begin? We are all on our own missions and to the outside
world we must present a hard shell. But what pain first invaded the tender insides
creating layer on layer of defenses and justifications to create this black pearl? At what
point does the confusion force it's own confrontation with the need to reconcile the past
with future? And who will invite the stranger to put aside the dark perceptions? To live
again in an unsure present with the rest of us? And if we can learn the way to help the
stranger inside others, can we then help the stranger in ourselves?
